FOOT HEALTH ASSESSMENTS / CHECKS

DRY CRACKED HEELS

A common, but often-painful, foot condition that can lead to more serious complications if left without treatment.

We can safely remove any thick and hardened skin, allowing existing cracks to heal, and moisturiser to be absorbed more easily where over-the-counter moisturisers are not alleviating the problem.

CORN REMOVAL & TREATMENT OF CORNS

Corns are a localised thickened areas of skin that can develop on the tops and sides of toes or on the soles of the feet. Corns can also develop in-between the toes, known as a soft corn.  They are the body's response to excess pressure and friction caused by a variety of issues such as poorly fitting shoes, abnormal foot mechanics including bunions or hammer toes. Other causes can be prolonged standing,  walking or clients with medical conditions such as diabetes or psoriasis. These can be uncomfortable and very painful.

VERRUCAS

A verruca is a wart on the foot caused by a viral infection. Contrary to  popular misconceptions, a verruca does not have roots, what you may see is a visible cluster of blood vessels. Verrucas are very common although some people are more susceptible due to modern lifestyles. These can be uncomfortable and can be painful if they develop on a weight bearing part of the foot.

NAIL CUTTING/TRIMMING AND FILING

A professional nail cutting & care service that will ensure that proper hygiene is maintained. It's an excellent option for anyone seeking assistance with foot health!

Aimed at those with limited mobility or health conditions such as arthritis, diabetes or with impairment of vision.

CALLUSES & TREATMENT OF CALLUSES

A callus is an extended area of thickened, hard skin that builds up on the soles and heels of our feet. Excessive calluses can be very uncomfortable and are usually symptomatic of an underlying issue regarding lifestyle, gait, or health.

THICKENED NAILS

Toenails can thicken because of sudden or repeated trauma or injury. Mostly, this happens to people involved in sport or exercise, but can also occur due to ill-fitting shoes.

Whilst their unsightly nature is the most common reason people want to address this issue, thickened toenails aren’t simply a cosmetic problem.

If left untreated thickened toenails can get progressively worse in appearance, become painful and more difficult to trim, grow abnormally, and risk permanent damage to the growth cells of the nail root matrix.

Thickened toenails should not be dismissed as a simple cosmetic issue. Seeking regular professional care is essential to maintain foot health, alleviate discomfort, and prevent further complications. By addressing the problem early and effectively, individuals can enjoy improved foot comfort and overall well-being.

FUNGAL NAIL INFECTIONS, TREATMENT & MANAGEMENT OF FUNGAL INFECTIONS (ONYCHOMYCOSIS OR TINEA UNGIUM)

This can start with small streaks or spots that worsen over time, more commonly found on the big toes. The infected nail turns yellowish white, becoming thickened, crumbly, and often difficult to trim. If left untreated can spread to other toes and to the nail matrix causing permanent damage.

ATHLETES FOOT & MANAGEMENT OF ATHLETES FOOT (TINEA PEDIS)

Athlete’s foot is a fungal skin infection that usually affects the soles of the feet and interdigital spaces in between the toes.

This type of fungus most commonly attacks the feet since shoes create the perfect warm, dark, and moist environment that encourages fungal growth. Often this can be found to go hand in hand with fungal nail infection.

DIABETIC HEALTH CHECKS

Foot care is especially important for those who have diabetes since any injury or infection occurring to the feet has the potential to develop into something more serious.

For those with diabetes, taking care of your feet involves managing your diabetes well, leading a healthy active lifestyle, and ensuring someone able and qualified is looking after your feet.

Under the care of a Foot Health Practitioner a client will receive;

  • Prevention of the build-up of hard skin, maintenance of skin integrity, ensuring skin is kept moisturised and supple.

  • Routine toenail trimming to ensure nails are kept short and smooth and less likely to cause injury or harm to the surrounding skin.

Foot care is critical for individuals with diabetes due to the increased risk of complications, including infections, neuropathy, and poor circulation. Consistent and thorough nail and foot care can significantly improve quality of life and reduce the risk of severe health issues.
